We have a small flock of Suffolk sheep. The Suffolk is a very traditional breed still widely used by many commercial lamb producers, although it is losing popularity to continental breeds such as the Charollais and Texel at present. It is quite one of the nicest looking sheep (I am biased of course), and the ewes are big and very friendly.

The best of each year's lamb crop are kept as replacements in the flock or are reared for selling as breeding rams. The rest of the lamb crop is reared off grass thro the summer and taken to the local butchers. We lamb indoors in the early part of the year, to enable the ram lambs to be well grown for the ram sales in the autumn. This also means that lambs are turned out onto spring grass just as they are starting to eat grass rather than milk from their mums. Lambing is a busy time, but you cannot beat the sight of a shed full of bouncing lambs in the depths of winter to cheer you up! Anyone living nearby who would like to come and see the lambs in January or February would be very welcome...just give us a ring.
